The Reach Foundation
Reach is an incredible foundation set up to support the development of teens and help them become healthy and resilient young adults. The Reach Foundation recognises the difficulties young people are facing, and gives them some place to go to speak honestly about their fears and dreams without judgment.
Following youth-led workshops at schools and community centres, these teens say that they have increased their own self-awareness and optimism and now have the ability to build deeper connections with those around them.
CARE is a global leader within a worldwide movement dedicated to ending poverty. The Australian branch is a charity and international humanitarian aid organisation fighting global poverty, with a special focus on empowering women and girls to bring lasting change to their communities. The charity emerged in the U.S. in 1945 sending food parcels to Europe, with CARE standing for ‘Cooperative for American Remittances to Europe’. As CARE’s activities broadened, this was then changed to the ‘Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere’.
Today, CARE Australia undertakes activities in 23 countries in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa, as well as responding to humanitarian emergencies. Here is just a small taste of what CARE Australia is giving back:
• In Malawi, they’re helping increase the income of women living with HIV and AIDS, and helping slow the spread of the disease through education.
• In Papua New Guinea, they’re training male and female community leaders in ways to help increase knowledge of reproductive and maternal health in remote communities.
• Women in Timor-Leste are building and maintaining roads through a CARE project and using their income to buy cows and start small businesses.
